Use your own domain

Connect a domain you already own, or buy a new one in EduHost, so your school website opens at your own address.

Every school website gets a free EduHost address. You can also open your site at your school's own address, like www.yourschool.in. Use this if you already own a domain, or if you want to buy one through EduHost.

Before you start

  • Only school admins can change the domain. Other staff see the message View only — only school admins can change the domain.
  • If you already own a domain, keep the login for the company where you bought it. You will need to add one setting there.

Add a domain you already own

  1. Open Settings in the sidebar.
  2. Find the Your own domain section.
  3. Type your domain, for example www.yourschool.in. Type only the address. Do not add http:// or a slash.
  4. Save it. EduHost now shows The DNS record you need to add.
  5. Note the Type, Name / host and Points to or Value shown.
  6. Log in at the company where you bought your domain. Add a DNS record with exactly these details.
  7. Come back to EduHost. Until the record is found, you see Waiting for DNS. Nothing changes on your domain until the check passes.

Buy a new domain

You can buy a domain from inside EduHost. EduHost checks .in, .co.in, .org.in, .com and .school addresses. The domain is registered in your school's name and pointed at your site for you, so you do not need to add any DNS record.

  • Search with your school's name, using letters and numbers.
  • Pick an address that is free. Addresses marked Taken cannot be bought.
  • Some addresses need an ID check.
  • The domain is paid separately from your EduHost plan.

Good to know

  • Your free EduHost address keeps working. It is shown as Your Eduhost address.
  • Only ERNET India gives .edu.in domains. If you already have one, add it as a domain you already own.
  • DNS changes can take some time to show. If you still see Waiting for DNS., check that the record matches exactly.
  • To change how the site looks, see Edit your school website.
