EduHost can send SMS to parents from Broadcast. On the Broadcast settings page you can use your school's own SMS account, set the sender ID parents see, and choose quiet hours.
What each setting means
- Own SMS keys: the login details (keys) from your school's own SMS provider account. With these, SMS goes out through your account.
- Sender ID: the short name parents see as the sender of the SMS, in place of a phone number.
- Quiet hours: a time window, for example late at night, when messages should not go out to families.
Before you start
- Get the keys from your SMS provider. Your provider can tell you where to find them in your account with them.
- Keep your sender ID ready. In India, sender IDs for SMS must be registered on DLT. Your SMS provider helps with this. Use the same sender ID you registered.
Steps
- Open Broadcast → Settings.
- Find the SMS part of the page.
- Turn on the option to use your own SMS keys.
- Type or paste the keys from your SMS provider.
- Type your sender ID.
- Turn on quiet hours.
- Choose the time quiet hours start and the time they end.
- Click Save.
Good to know
- Each message channel (in-app, email, SMS, WhatsApp, push) can be switched on or off on its own. Make sure SMS is on if you want to send SMS.
- Copy keys carefully. One wrong letter can stop SMS from going out.
- If your sender ID does not match what is registered, SMS may not reach parents. Check with your SMS provider.
- Quiet hours matter most for Automatic messages, such as absent alerts, which go out without anyone pressing send. See the article Automatic messages.
- To write and send a message, see Send a message to parents (Broadcast).
