EduHost can tell parents by itself when their child is marked absent. You do not need to send these messages one by one. Use this when you want every family told about an absence without extra work for your office.

Before you start

  • Attendance must be marked in EduHost. See Mark daily attendance or Take attendance period by period.
  • Parents need a phone number or email saved in the student's guardian details, so the message can reach them.

Steps

  1. In the sidebar, open Broadcast → Automatic.
  2. Find the absent alert in the list of automatic messages.
  3. Turn the absent alert on.
  4. Save your change, if the screen asks you to.

Choose how messages are sent

Messages can go by in-app message, email, SMS, WhatsApp or push notification. Each channel has its own on/off switch.

  1. Open Broadcast → Settings.
  2. Turn on the channels you want to use.
  3. Turn off any channels you do not want to use.

On the same page, your school can also add its own SMS keys and sender ID, and set quiet hours.

Good to know

  • The absent alert is one of several automatic messages. Each one has its own switch, so turning on the absent alert does not turn on the others.
  • WhatsApp messages go only to families who have agreed to get them. EduHost sends them for your school from its own WhatsApp number. A family can stop them at any time by sending STOP.
  • Parents who use the parent portal or app can also see school messages under Messages from school.
  • To check absences later, see View attendance reports.
