Custom fields let you add your own questions to the student form. Use them when your school needs to record something extra about each child, like a bus pickup point or a house name.
Before you start
- Only school admins can change settings. Other staff can see the settings page but cannot change it.
- Decide the name of each field. If you want people to pick from a list, write the choices down first.
Steps
- In the sidebar, open Settings.
- Find the Custom fields section.
- Choose Students.
- Click Add field.
- In Name, type the name of the field. This is what staff will see on the student form.
- If the field has a list of choices, type them in Options. Put one choice on each line, or separate them with commas. For example: Main Gate, Civil Lines.
- Tick Required if staff must fill this field before the form can be saved.
- Save the field.
Change or remove a field
- Click Edit to change the name, options or the Required setting.
- Use Move up and Move down to change the order of your fields.
- Click Remove to take a field off the form. It is then shown as Removed.
- Changed your mind? Click Restore to bring a removed field back.
Good to know
- The same screen also has a Staff choice next to Students.
- Keep field names short and clear, so office staff know what to type.
- Use Required only for details you really need for every child. Too many required fields slow down admissions.
- To change your school's name, logo or contact details, see the article Change school name, logo and contact details.
