Fill the class diary

Write a short daily note on what the class did and what to do at home, and share it with families.

The class diary is a short note about what your class did on a day. Families can read it in the parent portal, so they know what was taught and what to practise at home.

Before you start

  • Families read the diary only if they have a parent or student login.
  • Homework is not set here. Use Homework for that.

Steps

  1. In the sidebar, open Teaching → Class diary. Teachers can also tap Class diary on their dashboard.
  2. Choose the class you want to write for.
  3. Start a new diary entry.
  4. In Day, pick the day this note is about.
  5. In Who reads it, choose who should see the note.
  6. In What the class did, write a line or two. For example: Covered rounding to the nearest ten; practised on the number line.
  7. In Anything to do at home, add a short reminder if you want, such as Please revise page 21. This is a reminder, not the homework itself.
  8. Click Save and publish to share it now. Or click Save as a draft to finish it later.

What families see

In the portal, families see the Class diary for the week. It shows what the class did, any material, how far the class has got, and the note for home as At home. If you have not written anything, they see Nothing written yet this week.

Good to know

  • Nothing reaches a family until it is published. A Draft stays with you.
  • To take back a note you already shared, use Unsend. To delete an entry, use Remove.
  • Keep each note short and simple. Many parents read it on a phone.
  • To plan what you teach, see Write lesson plans. To share notes and files, see Share study materials.
