Start a new academic year
Add the new school year, move students up to their next class, and make the new year current.
Getting startedUpdated 17 Oct 20262 min read
At the end of each school year, you add the new year in EduHost and move your students up to their next class. This article shows you how to do both.
Before you start
- Your current year must have classes and students. If it has none, you will see This year has no classes yet.
- Finish marks, results and fee work for the old year if you can.
Add the new year
- Open Academic Year from the sidebar.
- Under School years, click Add a year.
- Type the Session name, for example 2025-26.
- Pick the Start date and End date.
- Click Add session.
Move students up
- Go to Students → Promotion.
- In Move students from, choose the Current year.
- In Move them into, pick the new year. You can only pick a later year with no students yet, or start a New year here.
- Under Where does each class go?, check the Moves to class for each Class. This is your next-year class plan. Click Reset to undo your changes.
- Look at the student list. For each student, choose Move up, Stay in class or Transfer out. Students marked Need a look need your decision.
- Read the Please check list and tick I have checked the list.
- Confirm the promotion.
- Under What next, use Set roll numbers and Carry unpaid fees forward if you need them.
Make the new year current
- Go back to Academic Year.
- Click Make current year on the new year. New data will be recorded under this year.
Good to know
- When you add a year, teacher assignments are copied to the new year's classes where possible. Check them under Subjects → Assign teachers.
- You can still open an old year from the year switcher. A past year is read-only.
- See Past promotions to find who moved up, stayed back or left school in earlier years.
- Use Edit name and dates to fix a year's name or dates.
