Choose your institution type

Learn what each institution type is for and how it changes the words EduHost uses for classes and sections.

Getting startedUpdated 17 Oct 20261 min read

EduHost works for schools, colleges, universities and coaching centres. The institution type you choose decides the words the app uses for your classes and sections, so the screens match how your place really works.

Why the type matters

Different places call their groups by different names. EduHost uses your type to pick the right words in the sidebar, on buttons and in messages.

  • School: classes and sections. The sidebar shows Classes.
  • College: courses and streams. The sidebar shows Courses.
  • University: courses and sections. The sidebar shows Courses.
  • Coaching: batches and groups. The sidebar shows Batches.

The setup card at the top of the sidebar also follows your type. For example, it says Set up your school, Set up your college or Set up your coaching centre.

Only the words change. You still add students, mark attendance and take fees in the same way.

How to choose

  1. Think about what you call your groups of students every day.
  2. If you say "Class 5, Section A", choose school.
  3. If you say "B.Com 1st Year" or a stream, choose college or university.
  4. If you say "Morning batch", choose coaching.
  5. Pick the type that is closest to how you work.

Terms are a separate step

Your institution type does not set your exam terms. You set terms for the academic year during setup, under Terms in this year. Most schools run 3 terms. Terms group your exams and report cards.

Good to know

  • Only the school owner can run setup.
  • Parents and students see the same words you choose, so pick the one families know.
  • To finish the rest of setup, see Set up your school. To turn parts of the app on or off, see Enable or disable modules.
