Use the Hostel pages to add your hostel blocks and the rooms inside them, then give each boarding student a room and a bed. Do this once when you start using the hostel, and again whenever a student joins or leaves.
Before you start
- To name a warden for a block, the warden must already be a staff member with the Warden designation. If no one has it, the form shows No wardens yet — add a staff member with the “Warden” designation.
- Students must already be added in EduHost before you can give them a room.
Add a block
- Go to Hostel → Rooms.
- Click Add block.
- Type the Block name.
- Under For, choose Boys, Girls or Co-ed.
- Type the Address (where the block is).
- In Monthly boarding fee, type an amount. Leave it blank to use the school rate from the Fees & mess tab. Type 0 if this block is free.
- Under Warden, pick a name from Select a warden.
- Save the block.
To change a block later, click Edit block.
Add rooms to a block
- Open the block. If it is empty, you see No rooms in this block yet.
- Add a room and type the Room no.
- Type the Floor.
- In Beds (capacity), type how many students can sleep in the room.
- Save the room. Repeat for each room.
Give a student a room
- Click Allocate room.
- In Student (by roll number or name), type a roll number or name and pick the student.
- In Room (only rooms with a free bed), search and pick the room.
- Type a Bed number, or leave it blank. Blank picks the next free bed.
- Save.
When a student leaves the hostel, click Vacate next to them to free the bed.
Good to know
- The top of the page shows Blocks, Rooms, Beds, Occupied and Vacant, so you can see free beds at a glance.
- There are Import from CSV and Import from Excel buttons, with templates to download, if you have a lot to enter.
- To take attendance at night, see Hostel roll call. To bill boarding, see Charge hostel fees.
