Use the Roll call page to check every hostel resident each night. Do it before lights out, so you know who is in the hostel and who is not.
Before you start
- Your hostel blocks and rooms must be set up, and students must be given rooms. See Set up hostel blocks and rooms.
- You need a role that can open the Hostel pages.
Steps
- In the sidebar, go to Hostel → Roll call.
- Look at Night of at the top. Make sure it shows the night you are marking.
- To find one student quickly, type in the Search name or room… box.
- First mark the students who are not in. For example, a student who is on a home visit, on leave, or missing.
- When only the students who are in are left, click Mark everyone else in.
- Go back to the Dashboard. The Hostel tonight card should say Everyone is marked.
Good to know
- Until roll call is done, the dashboard shows a task: Tonight's roll call, with the number of residents not marked yet.
- The Hostel tonight card on the dashboard shows how many residents are in the hostel, how many are on a home visit or on leave, and how many are missing.
- If a student shows as missing, act at once. Look for them and call the family.
- Mark the students who are away first. Mark everyone else in marks all the students left on the list as in.
- Your school admin decides who can open this page under Roles & Permissions. A staff member with the Hostel warden role is often the one who does roll call.
- To charge boarding or mess fees, see Charge hostel fees.
