Charge hostel fees

Use this to charge boarding fees to students who live in the hostel and to show the mess menu to their families. Do this after your blocks and rooms are ready and students have a room.

Before you start

• Add your blocks and rooms first. See Set up hostel blocks and rooms.
• Give each hostel student a room with Allocate room. Only students with a room are hostel residents.
• Your fee setup in Fees should be ready.

Set the school-wide hostel rate

1. Open Hostel → Fees & mess.
2. Enter the school's normal monthly boarding fee.
3. Turn on the setting that sends hostel fees into Fees.
4. Click Save.

Set a different rate for one block

Use this when one block costs more or less than the school rate.

1. Open Hostel → Rooms.
2. Find the block and click Edit block.
3. In Monthly boarding fee, type the amount for this block.
4. Click Save.

If you leave Monthly boarding fee blank, the block uses the school-wide rate from the Fees & mess tab. Enter 0 if the block is free.

Share the mess menu

1. Open Hostel → Fees & mess.
2. Fill in the mess menu.
3. Click Save.

Families can see the mess menu once it is saved.

Good to know

• When hostel fees go into Fees, you collect them like any other fee, for example from Fees → Take fee.
• Unpaid hostel fees show with other dues in Fees → Unpaid.
• Parents who have a parent login can see their child's bills and pay from the portal if your school takes online payment.
