Use this page when a teacher cannot take their periods on a day. EduHost shows which periods need cover and suggests teachers who are free at that time.
Before you start
- Your school periods must be set up. See Define school periods.
- Each class needs a routine with teachers in it. See Build the class routine.
- You need permission to open the Timetable pages.
Steps
- In the sidebar, go to Timetable → Substitutions.
- The page opens on Today. To plan for another day, click Previous day or Next day.
- By default, the page lists Only periods that need a decision. To see every period of the day, click Show the whole day.
- Pick a period that needs cover. EduHost shows Finding who is free… while it looks for teachers.
- Choose one of the suggested free teachers to take the period.
- If you see Nobody is free this period., or you do not want cover, choose Leave it free.
- If you want, type a reason in the Why box.
- Do the same for each period. When all are done, you see Nothing left to arrange.
Swap periods
Instead of bringing in a substitute, you can swap periods between teachers. Use the swap option on the Substitutions page to move a teacher's period to another time on the same day.
Good to know
- Made a mistake? Click Undo to go back.
- The teacher who covers sees the period on their dashboard under My classes today, marked as covering for the usual teacher.
- Only teachers who are free in that period are suggested.
- Plan ahead: you can arrange cover for a coming day, not just today.
