Use this when students in the same class do not all study the same subjects. For example, some take Computer Science and others take Hindi. You can mark a subject as an elective, put subjects into combinations, and give each student their own set of subjects.

Before you start

  • Add your classes first on the Classes page.
  • Add your subjects. See the article Manage subjects.
  • Add subjects to each class in Subjects → Class subjects.

Mark a subject as an elective

  1. Go to Subjects → Subjects.
  2. Click Add subject, or open a subject you already added.
  3. Type the Name.
  4. In Code, type a short code, for example MATH.
  5. In Type, choose Optional / elective subject.
  6. Save. When it is saved, you see Saved.

In Class subjects, elective subjects are shown as Elective.

Make subject combinations

  1. Open the Subject combinations page from the Subjects section.
  2. In Class, click Pick a class and choose the class.
  3. If your school uses streams, choose the Stream. This is Optional. You can leave it as None.
  4. Choose the subjects that go together in this combination.
  5. Click Save combination.

Give students their subjects

  1. On the Subject combinations page, pick a row on the left. You see the students in it.
  2. Students who have no combination yet are shown under Unassigned.
  3. Put each student in a combination. If a student needs a different set of subjects, use Own combination.
  4. To take a student out of a combination, click Remove.
  5. Click Back to the class list when you are done.

Board subject codes

EduHost can keep your board's details and the board's code for each subject. Check that each subject's code matches the code your board uses.

Good to know

  • To choose who teaches each subject, see Assign teachers to subjects.
  • Colleges and coaching centres may see "Courses" or "Batches" instead of "Classes".
