Import students in bulk (Excel)

Add many students at once from an Excel file, check them before saving, and undo the import if something went wrong.

If you have a list of students in Excel, you can bring them all into EduHost at once. You do not have to type each student by hand. This is useful when you first start with EduHost or when many new students join together.

Before you start

  • Create your classes and sections first. Students are kept by class.
  • Check which academic year you are working in. A past year is read-only, so you cannot import into it.
  • Keep your Excel file ready on your computer. One row is one student.

Steps

  1. Open Students → All students from the sidebar.
  2. Click the option to import students from a file.
  3. Choose your Excel file, or drag it onto the screen until you see Drop the file here, then let go.
  4. Look at the preview. It shows the students before anything is saved.
  5. Fix any problems the screen points out. If needed, correct your Excel file and choose it again.
  6. Confirm the import to save the students.
  7. Open All students again and check that the new students are in the right classes.

If something went wrong

EduHost lets you undo an import. Use undo if you chose the wrong file or the students went into the wrong class. Then fix your file and import it again.

To change or remove only a few students, see Move, archive or remove students instead.

Good to know

  • EduHost checks for duplicate students, so the same child is not added twice by mistake.
  • To add just one or two children, it is easier to follow Add a new student.
  • Only staff whose role allows it can import students. If you cannot see this page, ask your school admin. They can change it under Roles & Permissions.
  • Always check the preview carefully. It is much easier to fix mistakes before saving.
