Use the library catalogue to keep a list of every book your school has. You can add books one by one, or bring in a long list at once from a file. Add books here before you lend them to students.
Before you start
- Keep the book details ready: title, author, ISBN, category and how many copies you have.
- If you have many books, you can type them into a spreadsheet first and import them all together.
Add one book
- In the sidebar, open Library → Catalogue.
- Click Add book.
- Type the Title of the book.
- Fill in Author, ISBN and Category. Fields marked Optional can be left empty.
- In Copies to add, type how many copies of this book you have.
- Click the button at the bottom of the form to save the book.
Each copy gets a serial number (1, 2, 3…) automatically. You will use this number when you lend a copy.
Add many books from a file
- Open Library → Catalogue.
- Click Download Excel template or Download CSV template.
- Open the file on your computer and fill in one book on each row. Do not change the column headings.
- Save the file.
- Back in the catalogue, click Import from Excel or Import from CSV, the same type as your file.
- Choose your file and follow the steps on the screen to finish.
Change or remove a book
- Find the book in the catalogue.
- Click Edit to open Edit book and change the details.
- To take a book out of the catalogue, use Remove book.
Good to know
- The top of the catalogue shows totals for Titles, Copies, Issued, Overdue and Borrowers.
- To lend books to students, see the article Issue, return and renew books.
- If you cannot see the Library pages, ask your school admin. They can change what your role can do under Roles & Permissions.
