A class teacher looks after one section of a class. Use this when a new year starts, or when a section gets a new class teacher.
Before you start
- The class and its sections must already exist. See Create classes and sections.
- The teacher must already be added under Staff.
- The teacher needs a staff login to see their class on their own dashboard.
Steps
- In the sidebar, open Classes.
- Click the class you want, for example Class 5. Its Class Record page opens.
- Look at Class teacher. If nobody is chosen yet, it says Not set.
- Open the place on this page where you choose the class teacher.
- Pick the teacher for the first section.
- Do the same for each other section in the list under Sections.
- Click Save.
- Check that Class teacher now shows the teacher's name, not Not set.
What a class teacher sees
When the teacher signs in, their dashboard shows a My class card for their section. On it they see:
- If today's attendance is taken or not. It says Attendance not taken yet until they mark it.
- Who is absent today, or Everyone is here today.
- Children who have a birthday today.
- An Open register button to see the attendance register for the class.
When a parent asks for leave for their child from the parent portal, the class teacher sees the request and replies to it. Once the leave is approved, those days show as Leave in attendance, not absent.
Good to know
- A class teacher is not the same as a subject teacher. To choose who teaches each subject, go to Subjects → Assign teachers.
- A teacher who is not a class teacher sees No class of your own on their dashboard.
- Each section has its own class teacher, so Class 5 A and Class 5 B can have different teachers.
- When students move to a new year, check the class teachers again. See Promote students to the next class.
